This is the Cedar Garden Bench I made from plans that were featured on the cover of Wood Magazine's June/July issue. I decided to finish it using Sikken's Natural Cetol 1 stain. This is the Cedar Garden Bench I made from plans that were featured on the cover of Wood Magazine's June/July issue. I'm still trying to decide whether to apply some kind of finish or to leave it 'natural'. I started this project by cutting 2x6, 2x4 and 1x4 cedar to the size specified in the plans. I labeled all the boards with masking tape to quickly identify them later. The back legs, 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" were made by laminating two 2" cedar boards then tracing the pattern on the boards and cutting them to shape on a bandsaw. Back Leg, Front Leg, Arm, Side Rail and cutouts. A back leg showing the 'notch' cutout for the arm and the mortise for the side rail. One end of the bench after assembling and glueing. I completed the back and I am now working on the cleats and the seat assembly. After that, it's on to the finishing. I'm planning right now to just use a clear finish on the cedar - something that will also provide weather protection.
