Mission Style Coffee Table Chimney Cupboard Display Case Chimney Cupboard/Display Case Mission Style Queen Size Headboard Mission Style Queen Size Headboard Mission Style Coffee Table Mission Style Coffee Table Current Workshop - March 2006
Completed: April, 2004 Materials: Quarter-Sawn White Oak Finish: Minwax Golden Oak Stain & Minwax Gloss Polyurethane Comments: This was the first project I built in my own workshop. It was made from a plan in Woodsmith Magazine, Issue No. 112. The only changes I made to the plans were to use 'dowels' to join the spindles to the side rails instead of the spacer method shown in the plan. Completed: June, 2006 Materials: Pine Finish: Minwax Golden Oak Stain & Minwax Gloss Polyurethane Comments: This project was made from a plan in Wood Magazine's Feb/Mar 2006 issue. I changed the plans to put glass panels in the door instead of solid wood. The case features tongue in groove beaded pine on the inside back face, adjustable shelves and a bottom drawer. Completed: November, 2004 Materials: White Ash. The seat and back cushions are solid foam with covers sewn by my wife, Paulette. Finish: Minwax Golden Oak Stain & Minwax Gloss Polyurethane. Comments: This Morris Chair features curved armrests, loose cushions and an adjustable back. The most challenging task was definitely constructing the curved armrests. The method for making the armrests is shown in following pictures in this gallery. The back is adjustable and can be moved by changing the position of wooden dowel pins that hold it in place. Completed: December, 2004 Materials: White Ash with solid foam cushions and covering. Finish: Minwax Golden Oak Stain & Minwax Gloss Polyurethane. Comments: The Ottoman was made from the plans included with the Morris Chair. Completed: July, 2004 Materials: White Ash. The back of the cabinet is Oak plywood. The bookcase has missions style pulls, hinges, catches and shelf pins. The glass in the doors is double-strengh glass and is attached to rabbets in the back of the door with clear silicone. Finish: Minwax Golden Oak Stain & Minwax Gloss Polyurethane. Comments: I spent about 3 months making this bookcase. The most difficult part was fitting the doors so that they would close with only a small gap. Comment: This is another view of the bookcase while empty. The three shelves can be adjusted by moving the shelf pins in the sides of the bookcase. Completed: January, 2006 Material: The case was constructed using 3/4" Baltic Birch Plywood. The cabinet, top, drawer faces and shelving are White Ash. The back front and sides of the inside drawers are poplar and the bottom of the doors is birch plywood. The dresser has mission style pulls, hinges, catches and shelf pins. Finish: Minwax Golden Oak Stain & Minwax Polyurethane. Comments: This tall Arts & Crafts dresser styled with corbels and arched lower rails offers lots of drawer and cabinet storage. Comments: This picture shows the inside of a drawer. The sides and back are made from poplar, the bottom from birch ply and the face from White Ash. Comments: The inside storage compartment of the dresser is configured with adjustable shelving, or, it can be left as one large area that could be used as an entertainment center. Completed: January, 2004 Material: The top is made from Alder and the legs are Black Walnut Finish: Minwax Cherry Stain and Minwax Gloss Polyurethane Comments: My very first project. I made this as part of a beginner's woodworking course at Tool's 'n Space in Victoria, B.C. I took the course for 3 consecutive Saturdays. It consisted of building a selected project from selecting the wood right through to the finish. During this time, I was able to use many woodworking power tools for the first time including a jointer, planer, drum sander, router and table saw. Comments: The underside of the table showing the cleats which are used to attach the frame to the table top. Completed: March, 2006 Materials: White Ash Finish: Watco Danish Oil - Golden Oak Comments: The plans for this project also included a footboard and side rails which I did not choose to make. Completed: March, 2006 Materials: White Ash Finish: Watco Danish Oil - Golden Oak Comments: Again with this headboard, the only variation I made from the plan was to use dowels to attach the spindles instead of the spacer method shown in the plan.
Completed: July, 2006 Materials: Cedar Finish: Sikken's Natural Cetol 1 Comments: This project was made from a plan that was featured on the cover of Wood Magazine's June-July/2006 issue.

Comments: The nightstand on my workshop assembly table prior to staining and finishing. The drawer is not shown in this picture. Completed: March, 2005 Material: White Ash Finish: Minwax Golden Oak Stain & Minwax Gloss Polyurethane Comments: This was a very easy project to build. Comments: Another view of the same coffee table Completed: June, 2005 Materials: Pine Finishing: Varathane Plastic Exterior Paint Comments: This picture of our paving stone pation shows a love seat, tables, adirondack chairs and planters. This was a welcome change from building mission-style furniture. Completed: June, 2005 Materials: Pine Finish: Varathane Plastic Exterior Paint This is my workshop as it looks today. The last addition, in Februay, 2006 was the Dust Collection System made from 4" PVC and flex-hose. The Dust Collector is the Grizzly 2HP 1029z. My workshop consists of one-half of a two-car garage. it is approximately 18' x 10'. I built walls and insulated them to enclose the workshop. I am able to open the garage door in good weather to allow more room to work. On the ceiling, I installed 6 x 2 fluoresent light fixtures. For power, I installed 2 x 20 amp circuits and 1 x 220V dedicated outlet for my 2HP Dust Collector. In addition there are 2 x 15 amp circuits for small tools and a 15 amp circuit for lighting. I took this workbench out of my shop to allow more room. I built a long, narrow shelving unit to hold everything that was on the bench and still spared up about 18" in the width of my working area.
